Whitehall Elementary School Kicks Off PARP: “Dive Deep Into an Ocean of Books!”

Posted Date: 01/30/26 (01:18 PM)

Whitehall Elementary School is excited to kick off its annual Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) program with this year’s theme, “Dive Deep Into an Ocean of Books!”

PARP is a month-long celebration of reading that encourages students and their families to read together each day throughout the month of February. Just like the ocean is filled with incredible discoveries, PARP invites students to explore new stories, characters, and ideas - one book at a time.

Students are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes a day, five days a week, with a reading partner of their choice. Reading partners can include parents, guardians, siblings, relatives, or other caring adults. Reading together may look like:

  • An adult reading to a child
  • A child reading to an adult
  • Taking turns reading pages or paragraphs
  • Reading independently together and sharing about what was read
Each student will receive a PARP packet from their classroom teacher that includes:
Students should return their signed PARP pledge by Monday, February 2, 2026, and weekly reading logs are due to teachers on Fridays throughout the program. Weekly participation is required to be eligible for prizes.

PARP is proudly sponsored by the Whitehall Elementary School PTA, whose continued support helps make reading fun, engaging, and meaningful for our students.

Let’s work together to make a splash and aim for 100% participation as we celebrate the joy of reading at Whitehall Elementary School. Grab a partner, open a book, and get ready to Dive Deep Into an Ocean of Books!
